Wasn't it played in both directions? Admittedly (shamefully) it's been a while since I've seen it, but I'm pretty sure one of the teens isekai'd into it had to learn to be happier with simpler to get her colour back.

Yes. One went back, one stayed, neither choice was shown to be the wrong decision.

this could be the 'tism talking but I don't see how Pleasantville is 'simpler' than the modern world. Surely more rigidity and stupid arbitrary rules against natural human behavior, alongside all the racism/classism/etc, is its own form of complexity. It's a rigidity that appeals to some people, is all.

right, remembering to deny all deeper emotions and passions is work.

Yes, this was a major point of the movie, so I'm not so much mad at the OP for their secret as just really confused. Did they only watch the first half hour or so?

I guess living without passion and by proscribed social tenets does probably make for a simpler life. Would it be good life? I guess that depends on your definition of good. Given the allegories present in movie, I'm kind of concerned about what you're promoting here. That colorless world had blank books, no fire, no rain, and no way out.

an ex boyfriend tried to sell me on his religious cult with the argument that if everyone played by the same narrow social rules everyone would be happy. after i went "yeah so try to imagine how well i'd do under those rules" he rescinded his suggestion that it would make me happier, because i was one of the weirdest motherfuckers he'd ever met

don't do lds, kids

You're not toast for anything. Stop fretting about fandom retards that don't share your opinion and pile on you for useless internet points. They have less value than a toilet paper keffiyeh.

If you agree with me, then I'm definitely rethinking my view on this.
