I was obsessed with Xena back in the day. I am talking posters on the wall and wearing merch to school obsessed. I am not gay but in retrospect I completely understand why everyone thought I was.

I loved Xena growing up, and such a close and strong friendship doesn't mean sexual attraction! It can, but it doesn't have to be! I like Xena x Ares, (pining Ares was my weak spot) but I wouldn't mind Area x Xena x Callisto. I thought Callisto was just so pretty and aspired to be like her and Xena.

This is so weird, as this morning I concocted a personal list of "unpopular fandom opinions" and this exact one was on it.

I get why it was a popular ship, but I too preferred it as platonic soulmates travelling the world together. Plus, I liked Gabrielle's string of bland male love interests, and Xena's more intense toxic romances. (That said, I DEFINITELY didn't want either one hooking up with any other character in the long-term).

I feel the same way about Crowley/Aziraphael in Good Omens and for the same reasons. In the books, you could take it either way but the series pushes the romantic angle BIG TIME NO WAY AROUND IT and it's just...tiring. Especially since the fandom is now saturated.
