i haven't heard anything about this, could you please explain?
are the creators against fanworks in general or against people profiting off them?

It's in their policies and guidelines that they forbid the sale of any fan content: https://larian.com/fan-content-policy

This includes paid mods and items that would be sold at aa in conventions both of which have been regular in the community since the game's spike in popularity.

Thanks for the link! I had no idea. These guidelines seem pretty reasonable, too.
(I personally do follow them for any fandom, so for me it's a given netiquette. so sad people in BG3 fandom disregard this)
