obviously this is bait, but it does get me thinking about how antis could...literally just make their own archive. otw's source code is completely free to use, and I whole-hardheartedly encourage antis to make their own archives with their own arbitrary rules, because it would be an absolute delight watching them tear each other apart.

I would be so happy if they did that. Quality entertainment right there.

If only antis actually wanted to do something other than killjoy and complain. I too wpuld love to see them try and create an archive with all their random piroty rules.

I'm pretty sure there actually was a small fic archive marketed as "good fic for good people"

Pretty sure it only lasted about 6 months before there was massive drama regarding them allowing "problematic" content until the demands for even more arbitrary rules got so much that the entire website shut down.

nayrt

Yeah, I think I could eat popcorn for six months. You know the fiction would be boring as fuck anyway.

Much like how most antis can't create decent art, they also can't make their own website. They're just fundamentally talentless, whiny people.

(Anonymous) 2024-04-20 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
But that would mean they would have to spend their energy on things that are productive instead of wasting it on whining and bitching about things they don't like. And that's never something antis like to do.

Antis may be busybodies, but they don't at all seem to want to do any heavy lifting in their communities. They want other people to create and maintain fandom spaces, and to fill up those spaces with fanworks; they just want to be able to punish those who create things that they dislike. They're basically the equivalent of control freak middle managers.

I find there's two kinds: one type who, when pushed far enough, will admit that yes they don't want to make a new, better archive that caters to their desires for censorship because what they actually want isn't a "safe space, free of (thing I don't like)" but to purge all spaces of whatever it is they don't like.

The other, even sadder, can see the writing on the wall and is aware that in the new, censorship-enabled space, the leopard will turn and immediately eat their face by banning the "problematic" things they happen to like, and therefore want AO3 to defend their freedom of speech, but not that of others, e.g., "it's good and moral for AO3 to ban things I find racially problematic or sexist but I like some age gap ships and I like that AO3 allows me to post those and I want its policies and userbase to defend me as I do, but not defend others".

Otherwise, yeah, obviously, you'd just make your own site or go to another one.

I am a Good Person, which means things I like are Good, and things I don't like are Bad. I would never do a Bad thing, because I am Good.

I do remember when some antis tried to make a zine for a fandom that was known for their dark themes. They even asked to artists/writers to be older than 18 to submit NSFW content, but turned out that one of the mods is a minor. So of course the zine never happened.

Is like that image of Patrick with a log in his forehead.
