[Highlander, The Old Guard, etc] I don't know why immortals would want to hide in the 21stC. I get it for the old days, they'd get killed for religious dumberry, but these days? That is an unneeded plot tactic, just come out the immortal closet and get good book deals and university history professor tenureships. Get rich just by selling your blood to vampire-wannabe billionaires like Peter Thiel.

Was the plot of The Old Guard not “evil billionaire decides that isn’t good enough and that he wants to lock you in a lab to experiment on for all time”?

A plot that only worked because they were so determined to stay in the shadows. If they were public with their identities and abilities, then they'd just have had their lawyer serve him a Cease and Desist letter.

I think it can be point of conflict for old VS new. Probably older immortals do not believe that it will work out. Or they have a habit of doing things certain ways.
For example in The Old Guard there is a possibility that they love fighting. They are warriors. They are not interested in getting into academy or business. Also being famous is quite shitty. Some people can deal with it or crave it. But a lot of don't
