Mimicing old media is usually about evocation and true evocation includes all aspects of memory, including flaws. This is especially true about media which when through a process of evolution that got rid of the flaws first, because at that point, without the flaws, you're simply not mimicing that specific old media, your mimicing the media 5-10 years later.

The flaws are what makes something charming! Even pixel art can be seen as ‘flawed,’ due to the extremely low resolution. Yet it’s become a whole genre of art. I think a style can be defined by its flaws, honestly, especially in gaming.
