They have media studies/mass communications degrees at many universities. At ASU, they broadcast the local PBS station and students are involved with it. Media production is something you can learn at college if you want to.

I feel the same way but for set design. I had no idea that stuff was an option, but I think props/set design for tv and movies would be so fun, plus I'd love to be low key background involved - I don't want to be famous or anything but yes to behind the scenes involvement.

I work in TV, and our producer manages a lot of moving parts. Talent, money, schedules. It seems interesting but stressful! I think you have to be really good with people, which is why I feel like I'm not particularly cut out for it, haha.

Seeing some of these replies and having my own experiences, it's really wild how many different options there are out there that if you're not in certain circles or happen upon them, you might not even be aware it exists, much less have a name for it.

I'm in my late 30s and I often kick myself for not getting into fields that called for little/no experience or an in from someone already in the field. Not until a few years did I realize often it literally is to just find jobs, apply, and then use the resources and tools you have to impart your mark in the field.
You probably won't get the highly notable jobs and it'll take a lot of time and networking to feel like you're in, but damn, do I wish I could have just gone for it when I was in my teens and 20s
