Exactly this. It wouldn't make sense, though, to use "Mary Winchester's A+ parenting," as a tag, since she was absent but it wasn't her fault. Dean was definitely affected by his father's choices, though.

Same. I'm not trans, and I read slash and het so I don't mind PIV scenes, but...IDK, I'll read a gender/sex swap thing, but I'm with you in general for trans male characters. I'm not sure why it gives me the ick a bit, but I guess I expect m/m sex options in slash whether the characters are trans or cis.

Why is it exclusively about book fandoms? And haven't loads and loads and loads of fandoms always been based on things that are extremely thin gruel comparatively speaking? That's why they often don't endure. And third, TLT.

I see it done with the Fentons in DP fandom all the time lately and like I know they were ideal and all but people also like to ignore the fact that the show showed Danny's parents accepting his half-ghostiness and acknowledging why he would have been afraid to tell them on MULTIPLE people occasions in varying AU timelines (long story but it's a super hero comic esque show) and even being horrified at themselves they didn't get it.

Every time they found out in canon they had an "oh my god what were we doing" response.

But people still like to show them throwing Danny out, abusing him or vivisecting him like it's canon .

That's it exactly: The fact that all of them seem to follow this trend of putting the afab character on bottom. I personally have yet to run into a fic that doesn't, which just gives me a creeping suspicion that the authors aren't actually m/m writers. I don't have anything to back that up, but it's a trend that I hate. If the author wants vaginal sex, why are they in M/M? Why can't the trans man top? I am suspicious.

watch your timeline, a lot of 'patriotic' pop was written after 1950. sometimes as late as 1980s. by grade school in 1980 we were not learning any of that in school, it was either in public (sporting events, parades) or not at all.
