Man, I hate using this term because most the time it's just juvenile and dumb, but she really is a poser. I've seen the jokes about the asylum lyrics in her new album, and honestly, I get why they're making them. I think she's trying very hard to add depth that just isn't there.

It's hard to think of a pop singer that isn't a poser. Not that this makes her not one, but it kinda comes with the pop entertainer territory.

AYRT
Yeah, that's a fair assessment, I'd say. I'm not as fed up with it with other artists though since it isn't constantly in my face online, even with tag filtering and blocking.

You're right that pop singers are posers. For me, the biggest difference is that most of them pick a persona, act it, and let their fanbase build up around it. Taylor Swift's posing is always obviously reactive, right down to the world's most cautious wink at the camera. It's posing for the algorithm.

What does this even mean?

(Anonymous) 2024-04-27 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Considering we're in an age where the algorithm can make or break your artistic career, anyone NOT posing for the algorithm is doing it wrong if they want to be successful.

No, pop singers are only posers if they're pretending to be something they're not.

The criticism of her lyrics on TTPD is so weird to me because so many people frame it as her ART and refuse to even entertain the idea that she has a sense of humor. I genuinely think she would join in on finding the lyrics funny, especially out of context.

I keep seeing people trying to come up with a parody of the lyrics and I'm like, give Taylor a month or so to catch her breath. Her parody of her own lyrics is going to be epic.

Her last big joke involved convincing a decent chunk of her fanbase that she was about to justify all their harassment of Joe Alwyn, so maybe her sense of humor needs some tweaking.

lol, the hardest core Swiftie I know, the one who tells me about her dreams where Taylor Swift invites her to her house to hang out, eat chicken tenders, and share decorating tips, was so convinced that the new album was going to absolutely destroy Joe. She's disappointed in the new album for not being upbeat enough, although that didn't stop her from downloading it as soon as it dropped and buying a hard copy.
