I had never heard of these guys until I saw the previous secret, then I stayed up until 1 AM looking up drama. It felt like the good (bad?) old days of Fandom Wank.

I think they're overestimating the demand for their content, but best wishes to them!

Apparently their company is called Watcher, but it's basically the guys from Buzzfeed Unsolved.

Watcher. Three guys that used to be at Buzzfeed.

I don't think anyone in the secret was bullied into anything. But, stating it like you have in the secret implies that 'grown ass men' can't be bullied into things, and I'm sorry, but that's just not true. Some adults are awful bullies and can and will do it to get their way or just because they can, since making others feel bad seems to make them feel happy or superior. They use their power (physical strength, authority/position, popularity, etc.) to get what they want.

From what I remember of the fanbase back in the Watcher jump over none of them really seemed to like Steven, tolerated at best imo, so I think this just gave a subset of fans the perfect opportunity to dump on a guy they've never liked to begin with while completely forgetting that all three of them would have agreed to this.

It's not new, certain fans can't seem to view their favorite creators/celebs as people and will pedestal them as if they're perfect creations or something. And Ryan and Shane def had that 'wholesome ghoul bois' parasocial thing from their BFU days that fans put on them, while Steven was just... there.

I think this new move of theirs, while understandable from a creative ownership perspective makes sense, was really quite dumb but I don't hate them for it. They just monumentally overestimated how willing most of the fans would be to pay for their content, but hey maybe it'll work out, maybe it won't.

Aw I see now why OP mentioned wishing the two had been posted at the same time. I have been on the lookout for this one because OP is in different circles so saw something totally different than what I witnessed.

I’m not entirely surprised that some people reacted this way. People are idiots.
