Funny how he’s definitely an abuser and she just doesn’t seem like a great person. All of her proof was that she’s an abuser and he’s not a great person.

Really not interested in recapitulating that particular celebrity witchhunt.

(Anonymous) 2024-05-03 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure. Right. That explains your comments. And usage of “witchhunt.” Because it was totally a witch hunt, just out of nowhere the whole world decided to persecute Amber Heard because she was such a well known star. It wasn’t at all a case of her making accusations that were proved, very early on, to be completely false.

I can tell you’re gonna need this spelled out for you: this doesn’t make Johnny Depp a hero. It doesn’t mean he isn’t a piece of shit. But Amber Heard went to a lot trouble and all she proved was that she’s an abusive and manipulative liar who will do anything for attention.

Depp defended himself from true accusations by making true accusations of his own, and he spent a lot more money working up publicity and whipping up the court of opinion to get people on his side.

I want whatever you’re smoking.

(Anonymous) 2024-05-04 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
How does that refute them both being abusers?

(Anonymous) 2024-05-04 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
The other nonnie's the one who thinks that - they think Depp isn't an abuser.

Agree they are both manipulative abusers. It is so weird how some people can't just admit it.

(Anonymous) 2024-05-04 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Some women think that admitting that Amber Heard is an abuser means no one will ever believe a woman again. And the thing is, it makes little to no difference. We’re already not believed. Having a high profile case with people insisting she’s innocent when she literally is not could be damaging. Like it or not, women are viewed as a single entity when it comes to stuff like this. (Anyone seen the man or bear videos and the resultant discourse?) a few loud delusional women make it easier to dismiss all women as the same.

(Anonymous) 2024-05-04 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
This. Not believing women is sexist and a problem. Insisting women can't be abusers is also sexist and a problem.

(Anonymous) 2024-05-04 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Nobody has said that Heard did nothing wrong!

(Anonymous) 2024-05-04 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Oh ho ho, nonnie, trust me; people have. I know them, unfortunately.

(Anonymous) 2024-05-04 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Nobody in this thread has.

(Anonymous) 2024-05-04 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
This thread literally started with “ Depp is definitely an abuser and people defending him suck. Heard doesn't seem like a great person either.”

(Anonymous) 2024-05-04 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Can you not fucking read? Do you not know what words mean? Do you not know what the words "has done nothing wrong" mean?

(Anonymous) 2024-05-04 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Can you read? This thread is about people not admitting that she’s also an abuser.

(Anonymous) 2024-05-04 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
No one has expressed a belief that Heard is definitely not an abuser, that she did nothing wrong, or that women are incapable of being abusers.

The simple fact of the matter is that far more people believed that Depp did nothing wrong and Heard was a lying manipulative whore than believed the reverse.

(Anonymous) 2024-05-04 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
More deflection. “Isn’t a great person,” “did some wrong things.” Very specifically not admitting that she’s an abuser. One agreeing that she’s a bad person and “probably an abuser.” And you’re once again missing the point that this is a thread about refusing to admit she’s an abuser. Because several are doing exactly that, including you.

(Anonymous) 2024-05-04 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
If you think that saying someone is probably an abuser is apologism, I don't know what to say.

(Anonymous) 2024-05-04 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
She isn’t probably an abuser though. She is an abuser. That’s actually been proven in a court of law using her own evidence.

Objectively, Johnny Depp ran a massive legal, publicity and PR campaign to convince people that he wasn't an abuser. That's the reason that people are defending Amber Heard: they are defending her against a massive campaign to smear her reputation that was carried out because she made (in my view, well-founded) accusations against Depp of being an abuser.

Heard is also a bad person, and probably an abuser. But the person who was able to successfully convince the public at large of their case was Johnny Depp, not Amber Heard. The one who was able to successfully convince people he did nothing wrong was Depp, not Heard. That campaign is the much bigger problem to me than anything else.

I wouldn't watch a movie with either of them in it. But I don't like that Depp ran a massive smear campaign against someone for accusing him of abuse and that people continue to buy into that campaign.

(Anonymous) 2024-05-04 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
People bought in to both sides. It is incredibly rare ime to see someone admit that they are both pos abusers. Most people come down on one side and hedge with things like "not a great person" instead of just syaing they are both trash.

(Anonymous) 2024-05-04 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Far more people bought into Depp's story, probably because he spent more money promoting it.

(Anonymous) 2024-05-04 12:28 am (UTC)(link)

Yeaaah there's a big difference between "an abuser" and "not a great person." You can believe Depp was a bigger abuser than Heard or vice versa, but they're both abusers.

Someone who's "not a great person" can be someone who like, litters and lets their dog shit in other people's yards. Someone who literally directly physically abuses other people is not the same thing.

What publicity campaign did he run? I honestly missed that. I didn’t pay close attention though because I knew about her fake bruises very soon after her accusations.
