This woman farted out her last successful book in the latter half of the 2000s and never made anything else remotely popular that wasn't HP related - and now we must suffer the merry-go-round of discussing her sad existence as a terminally online billionaire troll.

How are we measuring success, here? The Cormoran Strike novels have been reliable bestsellers, with each earning at least $2 million. Is that at the level of Harry Potter? No; but few books are. As far as copies sold, the series is doing about as well as 'A Court of Thorns and Roses' (the former has sold about 50 million copies over 7 books; the latter has sold 38 million over 6 books). Do you consider ACOTAR to be unsuccessful?

On one hand, those numbers seem pretty successful.

On the other, I've never heard of those books.

The last book I heard of coming from her was "The Casual Vacancy".

There's lots of bestsellers I haven't heard of. I don't take that to mean that they aren't actually bestsellers.

The Strike book and successful TV adaptations beg to differ.

What alternate universe are you living in?????

(Anonymous) 2024-05-04 12:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably the universe where selling millions of copies and making millions of dollars off a book is an indicator of success.

Oh like 50 shades of grey?

So are they successful or aren't they? Make up your mind.
