If I run into a bear in the woods I can just move away until it leaves or make noises to scare it off. People will also believe me that I was mauled by a bear. If I run into a man in the woods there's a higher chance the man will ...follow me. Most people won't believe me if I survive that encounter.

I feel safer with the bear.

You seriously think bears don't pursue their prey?

Most don't. If you see a bear nearby, you can retreat and the bear will also retreat, depending on the species of bear. You can also play dead, and it will leave, again depending on the species of bear.

Something has to have really startled the bear, or it has to be starving, to go after a human. A man just needs to feel entitled to go after a woman.

Safer with the bear.

Tell me you know nothing about wildlife without telling me you know nothing about wildlife.

Have you ever actually been around a bear? Have you been hiking alone and encountered a bear? Or a man? There is absolutley not a higher chance the man will follow you or attack you. I've encountered a lot of men while hiking and camping alone and not a single one followed me or threatened me in any way, but I have been followed by a bear. It was terrifying.

Yes. I live in the PNW. Safer with the bear.

I call bullshit. Or a fundamental misunderstanding of statistics.

The original thought experiment and my statement are not about statistics. Would you feel safer encountering a man or a bear? I feel safer with the bear. And that's something only an asshole would call bullshit on.

The point isn't that women are safer with the bear. The point is that women feel safer with the bear.

Lol there are bears in my neighborhood treating garbage cans like picnic baskets every week.

Black bears aren't very interested in humans unless we're threatening their cubs.

A hungry brown bear or a polar bear would be a different story, though. I'd take a man over a freakin' polar bear.
