(Anonymous) 2009-08-11 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)As a child of the 80's I have to say I grew up playing with the GI Joe's -- me and bro would always fight over who got to be Cobra and my solitary doll was always the subject of cruelty at the hands of Cobra Commander (regardless of who ended up beating whom's ass for that particular toy). And oddly enough I did turn out to be a sane adult.
And I actually quite liked the movie. I mean it was a typical action film so can't really expect much from it. Not tomention it had the feel of a movie made in the 80's which is fine by me. But wanting to ditch your friends because they went to see a movie you have only seen the trailer to... I can honestly say you are a lame ass that really really doesn't deserve friends in the first place. I'd hate to see what you would do if your "friends" had an opinion of their own!! Ugh, the horror!

Re: 127
What gets me is going on movie forums looking for information and found the places overrun with whining fanboys screaming about how [insert favorite very obscure character here] didn't make the cut. And furthermore, saying that anyone actually looking forward to at least trying the movie was either a terrorist or a studio mole. Then again, I'm a very recent Joe fan who actually gets some enjoyment out of the more recent stuff, so I'm already a traitor as far as these people seem to think.
These same people hold up the old cartoon like some gold standard that can never be reached. Honestly, I've looked for the original cartoon on YouTube and it's camp. It's eighties, toy-centered camp (though that campiness still looks funny and amusing enough to look out for the DVDs ^^). Why are people taking it this seriously? I was kind of hoping this movie and some of the old stuff being rereleased would rejuvenate the fandom a bit for all of us late-comers, but some of these older fans are so ridiculous, I don't see it happening.
