I was a little weirded out when Anna called him Cas, but not nearly as much as when Uriel did. WTF?! Uriel?

I found it weird that he was given a nickname at all. He just didn't seem the type who'd appreciate it. I kept expecting him to correct everyone.

Okay, maybe Dean would give him a nickname just to be annoying. But everyone else? Sounded odd.

I love the nickname Cas, but I confess, I love it mostly because it's Dean who gave it to him. It's such a cute COMPLETELY BADASS name. XD

Hee! That's cool, I can understand that. It did sound weird to me for everyone else, especially Uriel and Anna, to start using it too. But there's nothing wrong with the nickname itself!

I think him having a nickname separates him from the other Angels. Dean thought of Uriel and Zachariah as Angels, therefore their nicknames Chuckles, Junkless, and Dicks. Their nicknames were meant to insult them because he simply didn't like them. He does like Castiel though, and he doesn't think of him as an Angel but as a friend (said so himself!) so to separate him from the other heartless Angels he hates, he gave Castiel a nickname to sort of humanize him a bit. Plus I don't think Castiel minds. As long as Dean's doing what he should be doing (or at least is doing the right thing) and he isn't calling him a dick or son of a bitch, he's probably thankful that Dean is comfortable enough with him to give him a nickname.

I agree with that. I can see Anna picking up on it from being around Dean, but Uriel's usage of it didn't fly for me at all. I liked it best when only Dean (and maybe Sam) used it - it had far more impact for me that way.

Yeah, exactly; Anna could have picked it up from Dean or Sam, and she was human anyway, but why would an angel who'd never been or wanted to be anything else, like Uriel, even consider using a nickname?

I guess it's possible he meant it in a mocking way (even if he didn't make it obvious) and...he could have heard Dean use it? Like, he was mocking the fact that Dean called him that? IDK, it just bothers me so I try to justify it. XD
