No more so than Looney Tunes, though, is it? I'm hardly an expert but I never watched that show and thought "Wow, that's really violent."

Then again, we let the 2-year-old hang out while we have Repo on, in the grand tradition of my own parents letting me watch Terminator and War of the Worlds and reading Asimov and Jurrassic Park and murder mysteries for bedtime stories as a wee tyke...

The violence in Venture Brothers is more bloody and realistic (Brock Samson is covered in blood pretty often). That's a little different than someone getting hit with a mallet and turned into an accordion. Slapstick violence is also a little different than getting killed (and not coming back to life as an angel or something), or getting sliced in half or ran over with a car and just being, you know, dead.

I don't have a problem with kids watching cartoons with violence, but I wouldn't let a six year old watch something like Venture Brothers, that's a tad too young (maybe after they realize the concepts of death and mortality -- which I didn't really get a handle on until I was about 9).

Like I said elsewhere, I'm just speaking personally, I don't mean to judge the OP's parenting skills.

No, I'd say it's a good deal more violent than Looney Tunes, or at least, it's a different kind of violence. Toon violence is wacky and most importantly, rarely, if ever, involves someone actually getting (and staying) hurt.

Venture Brothers is more, y'know, Brock Sampson wading into a mess of guys, buck naked and covered in blood, clutching a knife in one hand and a human spine in the other. People die. People die in droves, in horrible, messy (occassionally hilarious) droves. It's a different kind of violence entirely, little bit more hardcore.

And let's not forget the strong sexual themes. And yeah, LT had sexual themes too, but again, not nearly as blatant and strong. Yeah, there's an age when they just straight up don't get it, and there's an age where it's okay (or at least, unavoidable), but I would think six isn't that.


And grand for you and your folks and all. Personally, I wish that my stepmother would've censored my stepbrother's tv-watching habits a bit, because the kid's a major twit, especially when it comes to movies.

I agree it's probably not the best thing for kids to watch, but at the same time, to each their own. My nephew's been watching Jurassic Park, too, since he was... what, 5? Old enough to WANT to watch it, whatever age that was. And whatever his mom likes watching on TV, he's seen, too. Gilmore Girls, Charmed, freaking Seventh Heaven. "Unavoidable" isn't a set time, and there's not a clear-cut limit to it. Your kid's gonna start seeing this stuff on TV, why should it be blocked out for something as silly as Venture Bros? Honestly, my main complaint for letting kids watch it isn't the violence or the sexual themes, it's the language. That's it. And that's even really limited on live TV, isn't it?

The point being, as long as your kid knows the difference between TV and real life, and they aren't having nightmares or causing trouble for other kids or in school, and as long as they get exercise and don't just sit in front of the TV all day, then what difference does it make?
