I don't think dbzmerciter2005 quite meant it as "copy someone's style and only use that." I take it more to mean that you look into different styles and see what you like and don't like, to expand your own personal. The only sort of comparison I can think of is someone just learning how to cook. In order to improve and develop their own signature dishes, it'd be best for them to test out several different kinds of recipes and ways of cooking to see what works best for them :]

Thank you. That's what I was going for. :) Though it is important to draw from the realistic, it's good to mimic other styles to find what you do and don't like about it and make it your own.
