I think, like you said, once you recognize that it's a seinen title it makes it just a bit easier to handle. Just barely.
To the OP, maybe you should watch the anime since it was stopped earlier than the manga and leaves a LIL bit of this stuff out? Because of this it makes it a bit easier to watch but it still has a whole bunch of fanservice in it.
I think Gantz is one of my second favorite anime's of all times just due to the fact that it made me love horrible characters and then feel for them which is hard to do.
