Asian TV anons,

(Anonymous) 2024-05-15 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Please give me some recs. I haven't been able to find anything good to watch recently. I like Healer and Nirvana on Fire. The most recent tv series that I almost finished is The Fiery Priest that came out 5 years ago, and even that I kinda skipped near the end. I'm dying for new things to watch. Help me out. I'm not a fan of Untamed, both book and series, I'm more of a Scum System fan.

Well, as you probably already know, there's not much that's on Nirvana in Fire's level, unfortunately. I liked The Untamed, but haven't read Scum System, so I'm not sure what to rec you.

Friendship/bromance, some wuxia:

Mysterious Lotus Casebook (with solving of mysteries)
Blood of Youth (with some political stuff in the royal court)

Imperial Coroner - female coroner teams up with prince and his friends to solve murders in a CSI-style approach, some political intrigue, some romance
In Blossom - woman narrowly evades death disguised as her rival to solve her own murder, romance and political plotting

Journey to Love - rival spy/assassins have to join forces to protect a princess (disguised as a prince) and rescue her brother the emperor, romance and bromance, angst and character death towards the end

The Starry Love - xianxia with some comedy, two sisters with opposite personalities end up in arranged marriage to the wrong guys
Wrong Carriage, Right Groom - two ladies end up married to the wrong guys again, romance and comedy

My Boss - fluffy, silly contrived roommates situation with romance, friendships and happy ending

Thank you!

Guardian (based on a novel by Priest) - university professor and urban fantasy detective solve cases involving "aliens" together (it's really just ghosts and spirits but eh censorship) and the professor has a big dark secret and a big fat crush on the detective.
full disclosure it's all a bit over the top and they keep losing the plot quite a few times but Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan own my entire heart with their big dramatic gestures and making doe eyes at each other all the time :)
it is sort of available on youtube (some episodes got taken down from the official channel) or in the... usual places

I love Guardian. The only problem is their budget cuts but it's worth it for the bromance bits and ambience. I doubt there will be more tv series like this from CN due to stricter media rules.

Taxi Driver - Korean drama about a team of vigilantes out for justice.

Inspector Koo - former cop turned insurance investigator who ends up hunting down a killer. It has some dark moments, but not too gritty or grim.

Thank you. I dropped Taxi Driver early on. I haven't heard about Inspector Koo.

I personally didn't like it because the casting differed too much from what I had in my head while reading the novel but I know a lot of people who really love The Sleuth of the Ming Dynasty. It's basically a Wuxia Whodunit mystery solving plot with bromance (based on a BL novel), found family and plenty of food porn.

Thank you.
I tried it a few years ago. Didn't like any of the characters for some reason.

Yeah, me neither so it's understandable.

I liked it, but then I hadn't read the novel so that probably helped. It sounded like a lot of the (totally legit) issues people had with the adaptation is that it changed a lot of stuff from the novel, and that's fair. I do think it could've been a better series in general, but I enjoyed it, especially the eunuch character.
