fic author here...I love your likes and kudos and bookmarks if you can't find words. I do. I love them. I love every extra hit count because you just wanna read it again.

It's hard for authors to know how to respond to in-depth comments because they almost demand a response, but there are also fans who accuse you of comment-padding when you respond. Whatever. If you can manage to string enough words demanding a response, wow, cool, great, but if you can't, it's still very awesome that you liked my fic at all even in what looks like the smallest way. Both authors and readers are caught in a "damned if you do, dammned if you don't" loop regardless of what you do, so do you and be happy that it's enough.
