If I owned I can have pets I want, paint the house if I want, add a shed, a garden, knock out a wall, update the appliances, etc etc etc.

Sure, but if you have no interest in doing those things, there isn't a difference.

No, the difference still exists. Your lack of interest doesn't change reality. You having no interest in owning a house =/= owning and renting are the same thing.

I never said renting and owning are the same thing. I said that TO ME, since I am not interested in those things, the only difference FOR ME, is who you are paying, a landlord or a bank. That is true whether you agree with me or not.
