I do really like the style they went with, the opening is very nice, and the character designs are fun. Mixed on the episodes and humor, but my niece loves it. The D&D episode is one of the few I watched because of her, and thought it was cute.

It's wild to remember the internet's overall reaction to it now, so overkill.

The Internet's reaction, especially fannish, to EVERYTHING is generally overkill. That said, coming off the 2013 TT show, which had some drama mixed in with goofy stuff, to the considerably more slapstick-feeling TTG kinda gave a lot of people (myself) metaphorical whiplash.
