What series are you glad you dropped when you did?

(Anonymous) 2024-05-23 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
What's a series or media you dropped early on that you keep hearing stuff about and think "well, glad I already dropped this shit"?

(Brought to you by the past and current JJK fandom meltdowns that I'm happy to say I don't care about anymore because the mangaka turned out to be an asshole troll lol.)

So, yeah, JJK, definitely.

And back then, Voltron. I noped out halfway through and wasn't particularly shocked or saddened when it turned to shite.

Also BBC Sherlock. Watched the first two seasons before I couldn't be bothered anymore and didn't regret it one bit.

I take it by "back then, Voltron" you mean Legendary Defender and not the 80s show? (I am old and the latter is what first springs to mind.)

Ah, yes. I actually thought I should clarify and then forgot.

Doctor Who. I was watching in horror ever since the end of Capaldi's first season. I'm glad I bailed before Moffat's final season on the show though, nothing I have seen since has persuaded me it is worth going back for.

The Simpsons.

I quit watching in the 1990s because I lost interest. In 2007, when the Simpsons movie commercials came out, they just made me cringe. (Yes, I'm aware of the secret this week. And no, I didn't go up to people talking about how lame I found the Simpsons, I kept it to myself because I understand the concept of letting people enjoy things.)

I should have stopped watching the Simpsons before I did. I'm not going to say what specific year it was but it was earlier than 2007. (and no, I'm not the one who did that secret above either)

I used to be all in the JJK fic, what's the deal with meltdowns? That is, what are the current meltdowns?

Last I heard about the mangaka, he was mad that his pretty boy OP MC (whom I love as well and is why I started watching) got all the popularity points when he argued the best character was Nanami (Nanami is great too). Please feel free to share the drama, OP, or anyone in the know.

Ok so MAJOR SPOILERS

Well, he first ended up putting pretty boy OP (not really) MC on a bus for the longest time and then after he came back actually killed him off in the most petty unceremonious way. Which kinda pissed people off. Then recently, he ended a chapter on a cliffhanger that made it look like that character had returned from the dead but then the following chapter, it turned out that it was just another character meat-puppeteering his corpse, apparently. And now I think he went on a break right after this? And this is just one of the several things he did to piss his readers off.

And I don't really care because I dropped it early enough but all that I read about it just makes me intensely dislike the mangaka for being a petty little bitch who basically throws tantrums because of shit he caused himself.

AYRT

WHAAAAT?!!! He did that to Gojo? Damn! And then he took a break??? LMAO this guy is too in the sauce. He needs to have space between himself and the fans. It's one thing if the death serves the story or is part of it, but from what you're saying, it really does sound like he's being a petty bitch. smh.

thanks for the details!

Yeah, he was a really petty butt about it. Like, he's acting like someone forced him to create a super OP prettier less pervy version of Kakashi and was all shocked Pikachu face when people went WILD for the guy. And then he didn't really want to be bothered about him anymore so he killed him off as a major lolfuckyou to the fans. (He was killed off super unceremoniously by Sukuna btw.)

No wonder people were joking that when Japan was working on a law that was supposed to make mangaka expose their real identities, Gege was shaking in his boots.

I watched the first season of Attack on Titan and had a good time! I have no idea what the hell happened.

I stopped watching BSG mid way through the last season when it became clear nothing meant anything. I wish I'd stopped earlier, but I'm still glad I stopped.

Sherlock, SPN, MCU

I quit watching Sherlock after S2. I kept reading fanfic, but I'm glad I didn't bother with the third and fourth seasons.

I've mostly quit following the MCU. I haven't quit cold turkey, but I've skipped at least 75% of the movies since Endgame, with no regrets. I watched the first batch of MCU tv shows, but have also largely quit keeping up with them, too.

Bones for sure.

Sherlock I wish I'd dropped sooner but my family was into it at the time.
