Chalk it up to HP fandom being a boiling cauldron of irrational hate, I guess. I can't really love Hagrid, due to his tendency to value the lives of his pets over the safety of children, but I always understood why Harry was so loyal to him.

I always thought I was in the minority with my Hagrid hate, other people hate him?

Honestly I hate him because I think he's not a well written character and because he does SO MUCH WRONG and gets the trio and their friends into mortal danger every book except six (1: fluffy, norbert, forbidden forest, 2: aragog, 3: hypogriffs, 4: skrewts, 5: grawp, 7: I love harry potter parties) yet harry keeps defending him.

Honestly I thought he should have died during book 5, it would have the same emotional impact as Sirius but I would get to keep sirius >_>

Plus he has the equivalent of an 8th grade education. Why are they letting him teach, again?

Oh also I thought I was one of the few hagrid haters because JKR has said before that Hagrid is her favorite character and I assumed I was alone in disliking him.

I could never hate Hagrid. He was Harry's first real friend. Yeah he's a blundering fool, but he has a heart of gold.

I disliked him because it felt like JKR ran out of things for him to do two books into the series, and all of his other subplots were stupid wastes of ink that did nothing to further the story.

In short, he was chaff that should have been separated from the wheat long ago, and been regulated to the occasional "special guest appearance."

This is the first I've heard of Hagrid-hate. He was always one of my favorite characters. I just saw him as the typical story "gentle giant". Sure he said some stuff he probably shouldn't have, but still. Hmm.
