Certain parts of fandom do seem to have lost the ability to just... have fun. Shipping isn't meant to be about something being canon, if it is: cool, but if it never is: that's also cool. But there are some very loud people who want to be 'right' and 'win' so they hinge so much on their chosen ship being canon, and therefore 'winning' that they loose sight of actually enjoying themselves because fandom is now a competition.

It seems exhausting and those types are insufferable to deal with even if I like the ship because you can't have a normal fandom discussion with them, it's all about 'proving' that the ship will totes be canon guys!!! Instead of just enjoying the ship.

It’s so dismaying to see someone religious about a show poo-poo the finale because it didn't confirm their ship as the endgame. Like, there's one person I know who throws a tantrum every time a show she loves doesn't feature a 15-minute scene where her ship gets the happy ending with the white wedding and kiddies. Even if the lead ends up single but still kinda of close to the other half of her pairing. Like, hun, that's the point where you jump in and make what you happen - even if you can't write: boot up the Sims and get your girly her man.

I'm not saying that's what I did with Rebecca & Nathaniel from Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, but I'm also not confirming that I never did it…

There were always a few of these people, but now there a lot more.
