A thread for anyone looking for guidance on where to start with big universes/franchises.

What are the good seasons of American Horror Story? Where should I start watching and which ones do I skip?

Well, I've only watched the first six seasons, but of them...

Asylum, Coven, and Freak Show were my favourites. I wouldn't necessarily say SKIP Murder House, since it's not bad, but it's...just OK. If there hadn't been further seasons, I'd happily recommend it but it's probably the least interesting of the seasons I actually finished. Hotel I liked, but it's...really kind of a mess. A glorious mess, but a mess, nonetheless. If the rest of the series REALLY catches you, I'd recommend continuing on to it, if not, then you'll have already watched the best after seasons 2-4.

Roanoke...I just couldn't finish. I couldn't say what about it failed to catch me (especially this far removed from it), but... It did.

Cult and Apocalypse just never appealed to me, conceptwise, so I didn't bother with them, and I sort of forgot about the series after that.

Seconding Asylum and Coven.

I will also rec Apocalypse because it was so bad it was genuinely fun to watch. Other seasons are more or less skippable.

It is really dependent on the universe/franchise.

I think nonny meant for this to be a thread for people to ask about specific franchises.

Outside the movies and The Clone Wars cartoon (that I'm watching). Mostly want to know what books are still/currently canon, but even other media than the books too.
