Who reads about kids anyway? As an adult? Ya all are pervs watching Stranger Things tbh.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-03 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I only read stories with octogenarians. Just to be safe.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-04 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Continue to do so.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-03 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
this bait is stinky

(Anonymous) 2024-06-03 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Muppet Babies!!!!

(Anonymous) 2024-06-03 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
It's very telling that you read a secret about kids and your mind immediately jumped to something sexual.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-04 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Yup. Says a lot more about nonny than it does about the rest of us.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-04 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
ayrt
there's nothing sexual about my comment. Pervertion of mind is still a pervertion. If your tiny brain can't comprehend this word then change it to 'weird'. Weirdo.

Stranger Things also has adult protagonists.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-04 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
I've seen the secrets. It's always 4 kids in some 90s outfits, often on bicycles. The adults must be boring or something because they never get mentioned.

This is genuinely such a weird thing to think.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-04 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
I am... trying real hard to connect this comment to the secret, which had nothing to do with sex whatsoever, nor did it make the supposition that the main audience for stories about kids is adults-- I assume these were stories OP read and watched in their own childhood and is now able to verbalize an issue with, but if that's not the case, watching Stranger Things as an adult is hardly pervy.

I say this as another octagenarian-fancier, I just think it's weird to assume anyone's media consumption is sexual (unless that media is about old men, then it's obviously about sex)

(Anonymous) 2024-06-04 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Pervertion is not necessarily sexual. Aaand you're a tiny brain anon number 3 misinterpreting the comment. Go get your thropy. Ya all are pervs. Sorry guys, but it's a hard cold truth.

As an 80s kid, Stranger Things is very nostalgic.

Hope that helps the weird "pervertion" commenter to understand why this might appeal to adults.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-04 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
That was quite the leap.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-04 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
I am always puzzled by adults who read children's fiction and get mad when the kids end up facing the danger and saving the day. Why would children want to read a story where the kids go to bed early and their parents and teachers have all the adventures? I get that it's not the way you want the real world to work, but it's not the real world.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-04 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
I'm puzzled by how adults approach children's fiction in general. These are books, movies, and shows written with Child Logic, in order to appeal to children, and the adults are like, "none of this makes sense in Real Adult World!" Yes! Yes, you're right, and it's not supposed to make sense in Real Adult World, genius!

(Anonymous) 2024-06-04 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
AYRT-- yes, all of this. I sometimes wonder what people like this read when they were actually children. It's so odd.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-04 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
That doesn't describe OP, though. OP isn't mad that the kids do nothing and the adults have all the adventures. The secret says "get help from" an adult. Not stepping back and letting the adults do everything.

There's something about calling this a trope that's bothering me. Because it definitely is a trope of fiction, but...it's not fictional behavior. I get being bothered with the concept, and I get that's where you're coming from, but i don't think people are putting it in books solely because it's popular. some of it is because children, real children, are loathe to involve adults...especially with addiction and abuse. Like...human beings in general tend not to involve other helpful human beings in addiction and abuse, you know?

I get the reaction, I get having it, I also sometimes have it, I don't get the understanding of realism here.

Yeah, “no adult actually helps with this, so we have to fix it ourselves” is a common sentiment.

Same. I was wondering why it bothers OP so much, especially in realistic things? Because it is very realistic, both on the part of abused/troubled children not wanting to involve adults (reasonably so, as adults are the cause of their problems in the first place) and other adults knowing/seeing and not doing anything about it (either because of apathy, or because the perpetrator has more social clout - is a family elder or a "pillar of the community" - and the social consequences of confronting them would be severe). This is extremely common.

There have been a lot of photo repeats for quite a while now. I appreciate our Secret Maker(s) so I've never commented upon it.
