"Would it be possible for you to link to secrets marked as spoilers (like the way you do for porn secrets), instead of just labelling them as spoilers right above the image? By the time you see the label, you've already seen the image and then it's too late. :("

[Poll #1444305]

Suggested:
- increase space between spoiler warning and secret
- move all spoilery secrets to the end of the post
- make spoiler warning text more noticeable (big and red?)

IAWTC.

Ahh, that is a good point, actually.

Linking would be annoying. I already have to click to open all the 'too bigs' and 'not a secrets' and whatnot at the bottom. Don't make me sprain my finger with all that pointless clicking!!

Also, how are you going to be able to tell when you're supposed to mark it as a spoiler? I bet people will be bitching if you use your own discretion and make the wrong choice a few times.

The way I see it, the internet's full of spoilers. If you don't want the spoilers, stay offline 'til you're caught up.

But, there's no harm in linking, either. So long as you know what's behind the link. I, for one, only read secrets that I know the fandom. (Otherwise I won't understand why the secret, anyway.) So if there's House secrets with spoilers, as long as they SAY "Spoilers for HOUSE" then I'm fine with the system.

I like this idea, too.

Seems like an awful load of work... Also, how do you keep track of what and when something's a spoiler? Say character x dies in episode 203, is that info still a spoiler three weeks later?

I kind of don't see the point, since spoiler reporting is only randomly done on the honor system. Even if some secrets were linked, there's still a chance that somebody is going to get spoiled anyway. It seems like extra hassle for little extra benefit.

This.

[identity profile] 3goodtimes.livejournal.com 2009-08-15 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
This would be a better alternative. I don't like the linking idea.

[identity profile] furious.livejournal.com 2009-08-15 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
If someone posts a secret and labels it as a spoiler I don't see why it couldn't just be a link instead but I wouldn't expect the mods to monitor every secret and decide if it's a spoiler or not.

The current tag for spoilers is too unnoticeable so I occasionally wind up with spoilers to things because the "[SPOILER]" doesn't stand out enough. Maybe if it was larger and red or something. Or post the spoiler secrets out of order and at the bottom of the post instead of just mixed in with everything else. idk I figure those would probably be more work than just posting a link.

[identity profile] antiva.livejournal.com 2009-08-15 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Where's the line of what's a spoiler and what isn't? I think you might end up having to link over half the stuff, which would be... really pointless.

The way I see it, there's already a warning that the post may have spoilers, so it's at own viewing risk.

[identity profile] post-position.livejournal.com 2009-08-15 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I think people should know that they're gonna get spoilers at F!S. I don't see the need to cater. You'll have to do that for almost all of the secrets then.

(Anonymous) 2009-08-15 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the warnings you already post are sufficient. Going to further lengths on your end is unnecessary.

[identity profile] myklavelle.livejournal.com 2009-08-15 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
LAWLZ!

[identity profile] ink-tree.livejournal.com 2009-08-15 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
If they're linked, I won't bother clicking on them. :s

[identity profile] kilobites.livejournal.com 2009-08-15 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
That sounds good.

(Anonymous) 2009-08-15 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Ditto.

[identity profile] zanzou-chan.livejournal.com 2009-08-15 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
If a person is going through secrets so fast that they see the secret before/at the same time as the spoiler, that's their fault. I've been spoiled before, and it's just a consequence of being on the internet in public forums.

The text works absolutely fine. Doing more is pandering, especially because lots of people don't mark secrets as spoilers at all.

[identity profile] rampant-chaos8.livejournal.com 2009-08-15 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe this is because I'm really not in any active fandoms anymore and have no invested interest in this... but, eh, either way, I don't really care.

[identity profile] miss-jaffacake.livejournal.com 2009-08-15 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd say spaces, 'cos linking would be putting even more extra work on you.

[identity profile] flyingmintbunny.livejournal.com 2009-08-15 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
The general warning at the start of each post is enough...

(Anonymous) 2009-08-15 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Thing is, if the poster of the secret doesn't say THERE'S A SPOILER IN THIS SECRET, changing it would be pointless.

Exactly.

Plus, you have to reload the page after every time you read a linked secret. If there are many linked secrets like that, you are looking at some serious reloading time. And if you have a slow connection or LJ is slow that day for the umpteenth reason, you might end up skipping those secrets all together. Which in return would lead to those secrets being commented on less.

This! Perfect sum up!
