(Anonymous) 2024-06-08 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)I just feel like these books popular on tiktok are written like fanfic.
I love fanfic, but when I'm reading them, I don't need a proper introduction to the characters or setting, cause canon gives me those things.
These books are written like the audience already knows the world they take place in and it makes them incredibly flat - when you're lucky, at least the characters are decent-ish.
It's all just... watered down somehow?
Oh, and you can definitely tell that some quotes/scenes were written so other people could make Tiktok edits for the book. Aka the marketing is just highly obnoxious.
I DO wonder if the books in the secret are supposed to be examples, though cause while Tiktok's holy grail is there (the ACOTAR series), there are also others wildly beloved and considered good outside of Tiktok.
