I fell so hard out of love with Doctor Who that I haven’t even seen Thirteen :( I’m really excited about it again! And I’m hopeful that once we get a ways into this newest era that I can watch Thirteen with the knowledge that the show isn’t great but the Doctor is and the show gets better.

For the record, Moffat's era is my favorite era, not RTD's first. And I did like 13, I just didn't feel this level of excitement.

TBH, I think any time Nu Who has had major problems, the writing is the main culprit. Bad acting has been incredibly rare, especially among the leads. 13's era was one of good actors hamstrung by boring writing.

I kinda get this, though I do sometimes wonder if it's the fact I'm actually getting actively involved while the episodes are new e.g. on tumblr. I've never really done that before.

When I did my entire show re-watch last year there were a few series in both Classic and New that I enjoyed but didn't love. Thirteen's era was more on that side of things for me but even then, the very first time things like the Spyfall reveal were broadcast that felt quite epic. I was disappointed with how things turned out overall there but the cliffhanger is still one of my favourite moments from the modern show.

I wish BookTok wasn’t a thing. I’ve had similar experiences where someone recs something and makes it sound great, then I get it and discover it’s a pile of shit covered in glitter. And right after that is when I find out it’s a BookTok darling.

I’ve finally learned to check into that before getting anything but a combination of optimism and forgetfulness kept me from doing that for an embarrassing amount of time. I’ve also learned to carefully consider the rev source from social circles; some are avid readers who care about good storytelling, some are avid readers who prioritize the conventions of writing, and then there are the people who read a couple books a year and think Fifty Shades of Grey is well written hardcore porn and get their recs from BookTok.

I just assume that, even with best intentions - and I believe him when he says he's working on it - that the books'll never be finished. Of course, I still hope it will be, and would be pleasantly surprised if he does finish the series.

In the meantime, there's fanfiction out there that's so much better than that flaming dumpster of a final season of GoT.

Currently listening to The Old Witch Sleep and the Good Man Grace by The Amazing Devil. That build up and change at the 5:13ish mark and then the build during the next minute or so as the music intensifies. I love it. That song gets to me every time.
