I liked the crop tops but I was always so envious of the people who could wear them... because I sure didn't have flat abs then and I sure don't now, lol.

Taylor Swift seems like a strange choice for this. She's very standardly beautiful.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-10 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
She is also tiny.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-10 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
She's also 5'11" and has long bones, so her proportions naturally look leaner. But she is very thin. This photo actually makes her look less thin than she usually appears. She's an odd choice for a body positivity role model, there are a lot of women I would have put ahead of her given that she is the dictionary definition of conventionally "perfect proportions" thin woman

Today I learned Taylor Swift is the same height as my husband. And one of my favorite YouTubers.

She's also on the record as having had an eating disorder. If seeing her like this helps anon, what's the big deal? Skinny, conventionally attractive women don't magically not have body issues.

[personal profile] hey_hey_hey 2024-06-10 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
She is still very skinny. 1) The camera supposedly adds ten pounds and 2) our perceptions of what is skinny has been skewed by Hollywood.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-11 09:57 am (UTC)(link)
She is not skinny. She is slim, she's not overweight in any way but she's not skinny.

Secret maker (but not the OP)

(Anonymous) 2024-06-10 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
A note of explanation about the image choice - I had a difficult time finding a good image of Swift that was 1) from her recent tour, 2) wearing outfits like OP described AND 3) displaying a less than conventionally attractive body. So if the choice doesn't exactly fit the secret text, that's on me, not the OP.

Cheers,

a secret maker

I just get a Toddlers in Tiaras vibe off Taylor in her sparkly leotards.

Crop tops are awful.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-10 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I love her outfits just because they are ridiculous and sparkly and she is clearly loving it.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-10 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Crop tops look way better with a soft tum than flat abs!

(Also if Taylor Swift doesn't have a great deal of rigid shapewear under all of those leotards, I'll eat my hat.)

(Anonymous) 2024-06-11 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
oh I'm sure she does. while I'm not a fan, I salute anyone who can perform that hard while in shapewear, it can be constricting in all the wrong places as well as the right ones. it takes stamina, good for her.

And stilettos! I know how super weird this sounds, but god I hope she has very big feet. Trying to wear stilettos on a small foot puts all the weight on the toes, which hurts so much. I know her Louboutins are probably hand fitted to every groove of her feet and specifically reinforced, but it's still a serious balancing game.

OP allow me to introduce you to Maria Brink and her hips.

Thank you secret maker!!! This was a hard one, you knocked it out of the park.

I'd like to state that this secret was even longer but I cut out a part mentioning that I feel like skinny people are not allowed to dislike any part of our bodies. If I say I don't like my thighs or stomach among any group of women of any size, I get the "come on, you're skinny, shut up and listen to my real problems". (Followed by them complaining about tits I'd like to have and their supposedly fat legs which are perfectly proportionate and look great. Grass is always greener, I guess.)

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2024-06-11 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
I've gotten used to not talking about it, but I can relate.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-11 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
People seem way less concerned about flat abs under the crop tops these days. I wouldn't worry too much about that, if you're comfortable.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-11 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
There is something insanely attractive about a tummy under a crop top, man or woman!

(Anonymous) 2024-06-11 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
I was gonna say, flat abs are anything but mandatory right now. I actually thought the change was a positive effect from the body positivity movement.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-11 08:18 am (UTC)(link)
Personally I wouldn't describe someone with a "poochy tummy" and "bigger thighs" as skinny. Slim or slender? Sure. But not skinny. And Tailor Swift is in the slim category, she's not skinny.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-11 12:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds like a you thing, honestly.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-11 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Take this from someone who did the whole anorexia thing once - getting rid of your "poochy stomach" is a lie unless a) you do mad core exercises (like, a truly insane amount of core exercises) or b) you're underweight in a deeply unhealthy way. It's one of those places where healthy body fat just kind of goes, so unless you get enough muscle right there to kind of contour it or actively starve yourself you need to, idk, go around sucking in your stomach all the time for no reason.

Fortunately this isn't the early/mid 2000s, so literally nobody cares if you're wearing a crop top without a magazine cover's worth of smoothing.

*looks at years of core work at close to flat abs* Whoops.
