This is the only Joey Hill series I don't like. All her other erotica portrays BDSM in healthy ways with rules and safe words and such. I love that she's one of the few authors who switches things up and doesn't always write dominant men and submissive women. But this series, in spite of having some kinks of mine, is not as fun for me.

I agree, that's why I think people who like dark romance ( which tends to contain triggering elements) would enjoy it more than her other stories.
