I'm sure she's okay with that. She's not looking for your forgiveness.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-15 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
Dont think OP is looking for forgiveness

(Anonymous) 2024-06-14 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
…do you mean climate change?

Secret OP

(Anonymous) 2024-06-14 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I was referring to her engagement with pseudoscience around health.

Re: Secret OP

(Anonymous) 2024-06-14 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Could you elaborate? I can’t find anything about this.

Are you saying she's an anti-vaxxer or what?

(Anonymous) 2024-06-15 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
Do people consider climate change pseudoscience?

(Anonymous) 2024-06-15 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately that’s the common stance in America. And the actress is a huge environmental activist so the secret really looks like that’s what it’s about. The answer OP gave above doesn’t turn anything up in google, either.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-15 01:30 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not actually the popular view in America--a majority DO understand climate change. It's just that the ones who don't are obnoxiously loud.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-15 01:35 pm (UTC)(link)
That's like saying the Flat Earth Theory is "the common stance" in America.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-15 02:40 am (UTC)(link)

Some of it is pseudoscience, like the idea that we'll all be dead in 6 years.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-15 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Or the idea that the dinosaurs are hiding in the Earth's core and the higher temperatures will drive them back to the surface to destroy us all.

Just hers?

(Anonymous) 2024-06-17 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
not OP, but maybe because she starred in a movie about kids with cancer, the turn to psuedoscience feels like a more personal betrayal to them?

The ones I don’t forgive for pseudoscience are the damn politicians. And Gwyneth Paltrow for selling that crap, but I don’t know of a lot of famous people who do that.

She definitely seems to have some pretty woo-woo crunchy-granola beliefs, which make me roll my eyes, personally. But I've never heard her espouse her beliefs in a way that seemed likely to cause harm to others, so...whatever, I guess? I don't think I'd want to be close friends with her or anything, but she probably wouldn't want to be my friend, either. *shrug*

(Anonymous) 2024-06-15 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
But she leans 5'9.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-15 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
As long as she's not selling anything harmful to others, I'm not sure how much I care, but I will grant you she has been into some odd things:

"I was 14, and my grandma is a naturopath, and she took my blood—she does live blood and cell analysis. She was like, 'You should probably eat more vegetables, and microwaves are not great for you.' And so I started doing research, and I haven't used a microwave since. And that kind of kicked off eating vegetables. But I still liked processed foods," Woodley told BlackBook in December 2011. "And then, at around 16, I got really, really big into the environment and the importance of realizing that we are nature, which a lot of people have forgotten. We're not part of nature, we are nature."

"I think everything about my lifestyle is fairly alternative. I gather my own spring water from mountains every month. I go to a farm to get my food. I make everything from my own toothpaste to my own body lotions and face oils. I could go on for hours," the Spectacular Now star told Flaunt in August 2013. "I make my own medicines; I don't get those from doctors. I make my own cheese and forage wild foods and identify wild plants. It's an entire lifestyle. It's appealing to my soul."

"There is an herb called mugwort that I've tried, which is supposed to help enhance dreams. You can burn a little before bed or sleep on a mugwort pillow. It's found in all parts of America, East Coast and West—anytime you see weeds growing through cracks in a parking lot, there's probably mugwort. You can harvest it yourself, dry it, bundle it, and burn it like sage," she told Harper's Bazaar in March 2014. "Specifically, mugwort is associated with lucid dreaming, which I've experienced a few times. I'm no expert, but when I've tried it, I've used a technique where you fall asleep while knocking on a wall. Something about that keeps your brain awake while your body goes to sleep, inducing that great moment when you realize, 'Wow, I'm conscious of the fact that I'm dreaming.'"

"I first heard about the benefits of eating clay from a taxi driver. He was African and was saying that, where he's from, the women eat clay when they're pregnant," she told Into the Gloss in March 2014. "Seriously—ask your taxi drivers where they are from and about their customs. You will learn a lot."

"Another thing I like to do is give my vagina a little vitamin D. I was reading an article written by an herbalist I studied about yeast infections and other genital issues. She said there's nothing better than vitamin D," Woodley told Into the Gloss in March 2014. "If you're feeling depleted, go in the sun for an hour and see how much energy you get. Or, if you live in a place that has heavy winters, when the sun finally comes out, spread your legs and get some sunshine."

(Anonymous) 2024-06-15 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
... The effect sunshine has on yeast infections has nothing to do with vitamin D.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-15 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
As someone who tends to be aware that I'm dreaming while dreaming without any herbs involved - why would you want that? D:

(Anonymous) 2024-06-15 08:52 am (UTC)(link)
Aw, my mom is one of those "microwave baaaad don't stand in front of it when it's running" people. I thought this was mainly an old people thing.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-15 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
From my (obviously) limited experiences, this misinformation is growing in popularity with younger generations too (across all generations).

I think it's easy to buy into this "microwaves are bad" misinformation because in general there are fears about overreliance on technology and a growing mistrust of tech, but it's easier to aim this anxiety/concern at microwaves because it can be fairly easy to avoid using it. And then one reassures themselves that they aren't being harmed by technology. Whilst ignoring that they are participating in this dystopia of tech by having a smart phone that they use for everything.
Also, demonizing microwaves is an easy way to participate in classism.

It's easier to misdirect anxieties/fears on things we can't control onto things that feel like we can to feel better about ourselves.

…mugwort is poisonous in large doses

(Anonymous) 2024-06-15 01:33 pm (UTC)(link)
It sure is! The fact that it's considered good for dreaming and visions is DIRECTLY related to the poisonous properties.

As someone who is into herbs and such, it being touted like it's safe drives me insane.
