This is the only game in the series I've played because I got it for free, and it pretty much killed any interest I had. I'm guessing this game wasn't well received and I should try another game?

Shelter isn't even the same genre as any of the main series (isometric turn based RPG (1-2), first person action RPG with pseudo-turn based aspects (3, NV, 4), MMORPG that necessarily got rid of the pseudo-turn based part (76)), and gives only a vague idea of what the world is like (you spend VERY little time in Vaults in any of the games...probably...the Bethesda-era games have more Vaults than the original 2 and they're more interesting to explore, on the whole), so...yeah, I wouldn't let Shelter put you off the main series.

It's like if Skyrim made a free dress up game for cell phones. It's nuts really.
