Not sure what song the latter is, but I’m thinking “one more day, one more time, one more sunset, maybe I’d be satisfied”

It's from Les Miserables - the big ensemble song right before the uprising happens

Yes to both of those, but I do this with so many words and phrases. My head is just a random box of song lyrics waiting to be unleashed and bouncing around forever.

Same, especially with musical theater songs. Once at work when we didn't have a manager and I was the one who had been there longest people kept asking me for help and I muttered under my breath the 'I cannot be everywhere at once, people! I'm in dire need of assistance' line from Hamilton and my coworkers looked at me funny.

omg I love it. And I knew exactly as I read it what it was from!

When I see it, I'm just annoyed that it didn't work last time I clicked it.

This is a cute secret

Heh this sort of thing definitely happens to me with phrases that resonate with certain songs. Can relate.

On a semi-related note I first watched Coco one Christmas Day after my husband and I had decided to be really decadent drinking (and eating!) for the majority of the afternoon as we were spending Christmas just by ourselves. Yeah...watching COCO of all things when you're several beers/glasses of wine or champagne deep was a MISTAKE. When you get to that moment with Remember Me? I ugly cried at the end. A lot.

I did not remember that movie being all that sad but my friend thinks it is the saddest movie they have ever seen (they have never seen Grave of the Fireflies) and will not rewatch it. I rewatched it recently and will admit it is really sad during that Remember Me scene but I still didn't cry. My friend now thinks I'm a monster lol

But then I've watched Encanto three times and ugly cried several times during that movie every single time.

Things hit us all differently! I've definitely watched things that people have told me are really emotional and I've felt a wee bit sad but not crying or devastated sad. So I don't think you're a monster, I think your emotional buttons are hit in a different way to your friend.

Coco hit me pretty hard but I think the worst time I've ever had for ugly sobbing and having to compose myself during the credits was Brave (I was set off by Merida thinking she'd doomed her mother) and Men in Black III when you realise Kay comforted a young Jay. Lucky me both of these were at the cinema, I was too scared to get up and walk out right away afterwards in case anyone saw what state I was in!

I still haven't watched Encanto, I think in part because from what others have said, I'm worried how it'll hit me.

Encanto hit me right in the forgotten mediocre middle child feels. It's not a sad movie exactly, but oh man did it hit every emotional button just dead on. I actually love the movie, I just have to be careful when I watch it because it's so emotional for me.

The last movie I ugly-cried at was Up. To hit us with that in the first 15 minutes... Pixar, you FUCKERS.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-22 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
I've never watched it because people said the first part was so brutal!

DA

This is a very interesting thread for me because while all the movies mentioned have incredibly sad moments, ultimately to me they are all incredibly joyful. You don't get the catharsis without high stakes. The scene where Miguel sings Remember Me to Coco makes me cry but not because it's sad, but because it's so painfully happy.

Up is brutal in those four minutes, but that makes the later acts so much more powerful. I heard my entire theater sigh in delight at the last shot of the movie (where the house ended up). It's a film about being able to keep going on and seeing the beauty in life by accepting loss as part of that painful/beautiful journey.

I'm the Encanto anon. The finale song in that is definitely catharsis happy crying! But it is still tinged with sadness.

I think for me, a person with depression and general fucked up moods/emotions, it is really hard to feel the happy when the sad is so overwhelming in my brain. Like logically I totally get what you're saying and see the happy and satisfied catharsis that other people feel, but for me sad or highly emotional things often just plummet me into depression and the happy is just a small glimmer drowned in the other feelings. I am very careful with the media Inwatch for this very reason. Even if its a really happy ending my brain often can't climb back from the sad devastating begining.

Oh I do that with One Day More all the time! Pretty much every Friday or day before I have a day off I wake up mentally singing 'one day more, another day another destiny~'

(Anonymous) 2024-06-22 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
I do this with Remember Me and also You’re Welcome from Moana. I wish I didn’t because the songs will stay in there playing in the background for weeks LOL
