I just wanted Eloise to remain single, tbh. Haven't watched past season one yet so I'm not sure how that is going to go for me.

Also, did Benedict's queer storyline go anywhere?

(Anonymous) 2024-06-24 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
To your question about Benedict, shockingly, that did go somewhere in S3.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-24 08:03 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed with Eloise. Only watched up to season 2 and I really didn't like where her possible romantic prospects were going

I just wanted Eloise to remain single

I feel this but...you know this is based on a book series, right? A series where each book is one of the Bridgertons gets married? They've made some changes, but I don't think this show is ever going to fuck with the main ships.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-23 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I kind of can't believe that Eloise is apparently neither gay nor ace in canon. I'm sorry but what the fuck? This is not my slash goggles talking; I don't even ship her with anyone (though I'd be cool with her being paired up with Penelope). It's just that the character in S1 felt so distinctly like she was being written as either completely uninterested in men, or completely uninterested in anybody in that way.

And I hear that the one middle brother who seemed like he was also going to have a queer-awakening storyline seems to be being written as straight now, too. Which, again, what the fuck?

(Anonymous) 2024-06-23 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
If you mean Benedict he does in fact have a queer awakening in s3, that is a thing that very much happens. How much they show that in later seasons and whether it will play into his future romance story however I can't say. But he is very much queer.

Ah, okay, my information was not up to date, my bad! Thank you for correcting me. I'm glad to know his storyline in S1 wasn't just blatant queerbaiting. :)

(Anonymous) 2024-06-23 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah they definitely went somewhere with it thankfully, it's not at the forefront of the show as he's more a side-brother atm, but it is the focus of his story for the season and I'm glad they actually committed.

The writers seem to indicate that being "unconventional" (they're more explicit in the article but i don't want to spoil) is part of his story.

Eloise is still utterly uninterested in being married. I would love it if she turned out to be Ace, but nobody seems to go there (and since it's a book series, i guess they don't want to go too far afield...).

(Anonymous) 2024-06-23 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I've shipped them since s1 because I've always loved their on-screen friendship, but insofar as canon goes, especially now I don't really want Eloise with anyone because they've made her so disinterested in romance that atm nothing would feel like it would fit.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-23 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I've seen two seconds of Bridgerton and assumed they were meant to be in a relationship.

Well there is a f/f main couple about to get a story if that helps? It's a confusing choice to fans of the books and show alike however.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-23 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
As a non book-fan I 100% got ~vibes with the both of them at the end, and then found out from the fandom that her end love-interest is a woman in the show now. And ngl I'm looking forward to it, but with like expectations in regards to execution with this show because it's amazing chaotic trash at best. lol.

yeah, haha i'm not necessarily here for a tight plot or real emotional stakes lmao

They look like teens?

(Anonymous) 2024-06-23 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
The actresses are 34 and 37. But yes, they're playing teens. Or were. No idea what the timeline is like in S2 and S3.

I ship them and then I started shipping Eloise/Cressida in the first half of S3, and even my extremely heterosexual mom was like, "Eloise is gay right?"

(Anonymous) 2024-06-24 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Yesss, Eloise/Cressida, I hope there’s more of them in some way going forward.

I've only watched the first three episodes of the show and have no interest in watching more, but I can't help but root for Eloise from afar... and I remember the first moment these two shared in the pilot made me go "oh? 👀". Ofc this show would never go there; a wlw love story* is fine for the sister that willingly entered the game, even if she disliked it, but I think Eloise is doomed to be punished for her non-conformity.

*and boy are some people going mask-off with their homophobia with this one. There's a change.org petition lmao.
