I think AI has really interesting artistic applications. There are ethical issues such as art theft and copying, and the impact of AI on various industries, but I agree that the technology itself can be used in creative and helpful ways.

Yeah, one of my friends who works in graphic design actually really loves AI (she does stuff like designing logos/signs for people) because it has in fact made her job much easier. These days she gets a lot of people bringing in AI-generated logos and saying stuff like "could you make something that combines this element from this one with that element from that one?" which makes it that much easier for her to come up with something that fits what the customer wants without needing huge amounts of back-and-forth.

I've seen it used for concept reference in a similar way to photobashing and vision boards for interior design, which is really cool to me.

Seems like the only legit use for it, but they're pushing for it to do more than that-- and as mentioned elsewhere, the resource (ab)use by AI is bad. Maybe even worse than cryptocurrency.

Definitely a legitimate concern, and a troubling one. Is it unique among art tools in that way? Genuine question, I can see how it would be since it is so resource heavy and can be used so widely and quickly. I'm not sure how that compares to other industry tools. I admit to not knowing a lot about the science behind AI.
