Artist as well here! And... I feel very similarly with ChatGPT. I mostly try to stay away from AI in general but... I tried it and can see where the fun is with talking to it or Character.AI. That's why I don't like to act too badly with people using it casually, it just feels like being mad at people who travel by plane in the economy class for emissions.

I've never used chatgpt, never mind Character.AI, but I've seen some people post screenshots of their conversations with their "faves", and it seems... bad. At best the characters have been severely Flanderized, at worst entirely OOC. I assume the llm pulls mainly from fanfic, which is a crapshoot, and things like incorrect quote blogs, and talking to that kinda amalgamation of bad character takes is so far from what I would consider a good time.

Oh yeah, never said they did a good job. One of my attempts was being curious how it roleplayed, and it was very meh. But still, I can see how it can be fun, like watching a bad but fun movie, "turning your brain off" kind of thing.
