If I was involved with someone else, and an old crush from 30 years ago popped up to offer me 'whatever' I'd be pretty darn annoyed. You're not hung up on this person, you're hung up on the idea of what this person offered you. 30 years ago.

Exchanging hellos and how are yous is fine, but this person can't fix your life for you.

It just sounds as though if your life weren't "so disappointing," you wouldn't even think of looking up this person.

Maybe I have that wrong and you really didn't mean it that way, but that's how it comes off.

I typed people's names from my past into a search engine and found them. He was one of them.
