I mean for me it's not enough for the fic to have the kinks and characters and stuff that I like; I also want it to be well written, or at least satisfyingly written. I've never seen any AI writing that was at all compelling.

Yeah, same.

Even "taking a human-written megafandom fic with tropes I like and find-and-replacing the names with my rarepair" can be satisfying in a pinch! The bot-generated stuff just...isn't. It can be a fun novelty in short bursts, but that only goes so far.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-27 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, AI stuff always seems so lifeless.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-27 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Well have fun with the regurgitation.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-27 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Every use of AI just worsens the climate crisis. So, yeah....

(Anonymous) 2024-06-27 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
So does every time we drive a car tbh and we're doing a pretty good job adding non-renewable energy sources

(Anonymous) 2024-06-27 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Cars are actually useful and serve a function in society.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-27 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
"Oohhhh but the cars".
People need cars. But also we must advocate for a better public transport and better use of energy.
Your stealing machine is just vanity project

I don't think AI is any good at all, I just think the environmental cost is often significantly overstated.

Should still be regulated but it's not anywhere close to the level where 1 individual person using AI should be seriously concerned about the environmental cost IMO.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-27 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
This I agree on. It should be regulated and I hate LLMs, but I don't think that generating things is especially impactful.
(I just really hate cars rhetoric)

Every day that we wake up and continue to live modern lifestyles, we contribute to the climate crisis.

On the other hand, the notion that we're in a climate crisis relies on a human exceptionalist assumption.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-27 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
No one needs AI to live.

Also, no.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-27 11:45 am (UTC)(link)
No one needs most of what we have to live. We think we do, because we're accustomed to modern living, but we really don't.

Also, yes.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-27 02:08 pm (UTC)(link)
We have built up a world such that most people need things to live, like cars, since we don't have public transportation, and a lot of jobs can't be done remotely.

Also, no.

Yup.

...you chose poorly

All the issues I have with AI aside (which go beyond its use in the creative field)... I actually love writing. As in, the process. So this is incomprehensibly lazy to me.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-27 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Writing is a struggle for me. I enjoy bits of it, but it's more an "i have an amazing idea and want to get it out of my brain" urge and the process is incredibly frustrating and difficult. If I could have someone or something just pluck the idea and execution I want out of my head and do it for me, I absolutely would.

+1000000

If you enjoy writing, that's not a virtue, it's luck. There are plenty of people who write a lot and have put in the work to strengthen their abilities, and still don't enjoy it.

No one enjoys every part of writing. I LOVE it but it still frustrates me and I'm slow at it and it can get draining and I've been blocked for long periods of time. I still know I'd get absolutely nothing out of making an AI write my ideas for me, because it's not just about the ideas for me. *I* want to write them.

Do people not day dream any more?

(Anonymous) 2024-06-27 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
A lot of people these days are so used to being spoon-fed everything that they have no creativity of their own.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-27 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not quite following your train of thought. How is this implying people don't daydream?

(Anonymous) 2024-06-27 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I see why this is a secret.
