Yeah I get this. Pretty sure the reason DT is doing this stuff (other than his personal stake due to his nb child) is that he is perfectly placed to not need defending too much, he's deflecting the heat from more vulnerable people and given he's the exact opposite of terminally online he probably won't even see half the reactionary crap being said about him.

Yeah. Still very admirable of him to do it, but he's very fortunate that his career doesn't depend upon a fanbase that would be aggressively hateful about it and he's probably got enough fuck you money at this point in his life where he can retire. Pretty sure he doesn't need Michael Sheen to protect him, LOL.

He's exactly the sort of ally to do this because he's so beloved it'd be hard for any bad actors to "cancel" him and yeah, he clearly knows the social-standing power he has and doesn't need any other actor or show runner to shield him - obviously it's nice if they come along and add support to what he's saying, but I doubt he's speaking out thinking "man I really hope Michael rescues me from Internet trolls here,"

Yeah, I mean, Michael Sheen and David Tennant are real life friends as well, so if Tennant needing defending I'm sure he could ask. Anyway, I'm just glad that trans people in the UK have a big celeb on their side because they surely need it.

Some parts of fandom are very big into performative activism. Like it doesn't count unless you're shouting and waving your arms around on Twitter or something, you're the enemy. That also gets mixed up with fandom and shipping re: Good Omens, because omg how could Michael Sheen not pop up roaring and offering fisticuffs to anyone who said a bad word about his bestie? So disloyal!
