The '90s felt fun and full of hope because we were young and weren't yet bombarded with news 24/7, not because they had less genocide and fascism.

Well, that was part of it.

The 1990s did have less fascism though. Like... that's just objectively true I'm pretty sure?

First, I'm darkly amused by this, because it comes across a but like, "well, sure, there was still plenty of genocide, but the fascism was on a downswing!"

Second, I really don't think one can say that there was less of it. On the contrary, I'd argue that the fascist veins in current politics have much to do with the young fascists of the '80s and '90s having retained their views. Remember: punks and European antifa were having their major street battles with skinheads and fascists some 30-odd years ago. The guys I know who brawled the most with fascists in their late teens and early 20s are either pushing or past 50.

I contend that there was the same amount of fascism in the '90s -- it was just younger. Unfortunately, the battles fought back then did not dissuade them, so we get to see them as grown-ups.

Operation Allied Force was carried out by NATO in 1999. The ending of USSR. African wars. That's just what I recall from the top of my head.
