If they want to share it, recs are a thing that can and do happen. Recs are born of a place of "Hey! I liked this thing! If you're in this fandom and like these elements of the fic, you'll probably like it too!" which is fun and exciting.

Why do you think that fan spaces refer to "comments" and "recs" on fic and art and not "reviews"? Because no one should be reviewing a piece of amateur work done purely for love and fun. People who insist that they need to write a review to share their views on a fanfic have such a significant overlap with people who say "I'm brutally honest" when what they mean is, they want to be a bully while hiding behind a technically neutral term that it is not at all neutral in practice.

Bet you hated sporkings.

Oh, I used to read and write sporkings ... when I was like, thirteen. And then I grew up.

Are you the anon who also thinks adults cannot enjoy South Park?

Nah, a lot of people just enjoy discussing their thoughts and opinions about the fiction they read, period. People join book clubs for this reason. And because many of us feel even more invested in the fanfic we read than we feel in the original fiction we read, it's even more natural and understandable that we'd want to discuss it with others.

Years ago, when LJ/DW was still the main fandom center, I was in a fandom that had a "book club" community. We would read one fic per week and discuss it; what worked for us, what didn't, favorite parts, observations, etc. It was a lot of fun and helped foster a greater appreciation for the body of fanfic that existed in our fandom. Literally no one was there for the purpose of bashing; everyone was there because they loved fanfic, loved the fandom, loved the characters, and wanted to share that enthusiasm with a community. It was a really great little community and I've found myself wishing a similar community existed for literally every fandom I've been in since.

I would fucking love something like this

I’m not out to “spork” anyone

I just want to talk about what did and didn’t work for me in a fic
