Kind of Inspired by #1

Has there ever been a band/musician that has made you want to be like them, influence your style or live in the 'world' created by their songs/music?

As and aging Emo kid I definitely was influenced by style when I was younger and liked the 2000s 'gothic'/mallgoth/emo art styles that I still kind of like now as an adult.

Gerard Way was certainly responsible for finally getting me into make up; mainly with messy eye make up that erased any fears of doing my make-up wrong in the first place.

influenced clothing style? of course. I grew up in the 80s and was in college in the 90s, anyone who didn't start wearing certain fashions due to their musical subgenre of choice is lying (it was the JNCO jeans for me).

but anything else? nah. it's just music, there's no world to live in there.

Same age as you, but I never wore fashions related to musical subgenre of choice! I did dress like a grunge fan but that was because those clothes were a) cheap b) covered everything and c) were available in plus sizes.

oh yeah, grunge was a good catch-all for everyone. but punk, emo, goth, ska, dance...they all had their trademark clothes and woe betide you show up to a concert in a polo and mom jeans. I'm glad I never went full goth, I would have looked ridiculous. Moreso than the wide-legged jeans and checkerboard Chucks, yes.

I think Green Day came close during my college years

Not really? I liked certain music because it aligned with my style, and I guess there's always a little bit of influence there but nothing huge.

I'm more of a "I love their music and it speaks to me so much I want to be friends with who wrote this" kind of person rather than a "music influences my style and I want to live in that world" kind of person.

I think David Bowie might be one of the first reasons I'm an ally.
