You don't thank people who give you gifts? I understand not leaving comments, but we're pretending that clicking a button for a kudos is too much now? Really?

But kudos are worthless, remember?

entitlement.

I do thank people who give me gifts -- that's what the kudos button is for.

However, I see no sense in leaving a kudos if I didn't like the fic, or didn't even finish it.

We can't see in other people's heads. If a fic doesn't hit the spot for them, for whatever reason, they're not obligated to leave a kudos.

The problem is, the people who make these posts don't want kudos. So a polite, appreciative 'thank you' kudo is not enough, you're supposed to hand-craft a personalized thank-you letter for every single fic you read, or else you're an ungrateful freeloader who is the reason fic writers are starving.

If you're in an exchange and you don't comment, word gets around. People who participate in exchanges absolutely know who doesn't leave comments, and everyone who I know who participates in exchanges requests the mods to not match them with known non-commenters (not vague like that, they specify by user name).

I do too. It's one thing to comment on a random fic you read, but if you sign up for an exchange and requested something and someone wrote you a thing based on your preferences and you then don't comment? Man, get the fuck out of here.

I completely agree with this. I don't really mind if people don't comment on my regular fics, but the last time I signed up for an exchange, my giftee neither commented nor gave any indication they'd ever read it. That's the one time it truly felt like I'd wasted all of my effort.
