Honestly, judging from secrets that are into AI fanfics/chatgpt and the whole making fics into books scenario - I'm not surprised that people react the way they do about comments. Commenting is just one part of fandom community - and a lot of people in 'fandom' now are less into community and more into consuming content. So when anyone leave an easy to ignore suggestion to comment, consumers take it very personally and get very mad when they could just continue not to comment and wait for the next chapter/fic.

I might buy that this really is about 'fan community', if these posts weren't explicitly phrased using content-consumer language. Posts screaming things like "this is FREE labor and content we're providing for YOU, so PAY US with comments" really don't vibe, at all, with the idea of fandom as a gift community that thrives on communication and connection.

Well its not like you're going to jail for not leaving a comment :P If your feelings are that easily hurt when someone gets over ambitious with asking for comments, then either stop reading that fic or keep getting pointlessly mad at people for wanting comments.

You come across as a lot more butthurt than the anon you replied to.
