Really? Golarion???

(Anonymous) 2024-07-10 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
What's Golarion?

(Anonymous) 2024-07-10 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
It's the core/base setting for Pathfinder, the D&D 3.x continuation game system.

i'm calling a flag on the play that this is a secret. you could walk into any dnd forum and say pathfinder did it better and get loads of agreement, to the point it's a meme. maybe golarion is the sole exception to this but, i wanna see the receipts.

IDK, there are definitely a lot of people who love Pathfinder but I don't think I've seen a ton of people talk about loving it for the setting specifically.

I could have just missed it though (I don't exactly spend a lot of time in Pathfinder-heavy circles).

that's the thing, it's the dnd heavy circles you'll find a lot of 'pathfinder is better' comments lol. but i guess the setting is talked about as much (though really settings rarely are, and when they do talk about them in dnd circles, it's to complain "pathfinder fixed this").

Thank you secret maker!

Yes I love Golarion. Yes I know most people who love Pathfinder *really* love Pathfinder. I'm one of them. Hi.

The secret is that it keeps me from enjoying stuff like Baulder's Gate and the D&D movie as much as I should as a ttrpg nerd. Just. Like. What if there were countries instead of cities and there were distinct cultures on the Sword Coast and also the gods fucked hard?

I love Pathfinder's mechanics - 3.x is my favourite edition of D&D proper - but Golarion is one of my least favourite settings.

It gets the fantasy/sci-fi balance completely wrong - too much SF given the fantasy focus.

Starfinder gets it right...and also makes Golarion a lost world, which I don't think is coincidental.
