People aren't complaining about Biden's age because it's "fair;" they're complaining about it because it's a legitimate concern.

Look, let's be real: if the Democrats were serious about beating Trump, about the notion that he's an existential threat, then they would try to run someone other than Biden. He is likely not going to be able to beat Trump this year -- and that isn't because pundits are talking about his cognitive decline; it's because anyone who pays any attention at all can see it. No, it's not his fault, but it means that he's a terrible candidate for multiple reasons.

I think the political establishment is perfectly fine with Trump winning. I think they like the way he completely freaks everyone out, and therefore allows them to shield themselves from criticism. I mean, goodness, they've certainly got you, haven't they? Can't say anything negative about anyone who isn't Trump! That's bothsidesism! Yeah, well, we're supposed to hold all of our elected officials accountable, and if there's a group of them that we think is taboo to criticize, then there's no incentive for them to govern well.

Not necessarily, as far as I can tell. More and more Democratic leaders are publicly on the fence. I was actually very surprised to find out my progressive House rep was defending Biden while my state's more mainstream Senators expressed unease.
