Oh wow. Maybe they forgot? That is jarring.

Yeah, I think disabled characters are often underestimated or overestimated, or a weird blend of both. Historical ableism is likewise both exaggerated and underplayed quite frequently. Your point about vision is very true too, many kinds of impairment are much more common in reality than fiction and seem to appear only when the author is making a Disabled Story, rather than as features of life.
