fanfics are not marked, as I understand? People seem to hate Goodreads rating for it here.

People reading 2/5 fics are into pain, got it.

Whooooooosh.

?

(Anonymous) 2024-07-21 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
That was the point going right over your head.

Eh, well, if you're gonna ignore everything I said, then there's no point in replying any more. Nice talk, see you tomorrow.

I don't understand why you read 2/5 fanfics and why you have something to say only about 5/5 fanfics.

(Anonymous) 2024-07-21 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
How do you know something is a 2/5 fanfic or a 5/5 fanfic?

Also, they do have something to say about 2/5 fic. It just isn't very nice, so they don't say it.

(Anonymous) 2024-07-21 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
DA but it's often real easy to tell that a fic is going to be 2/5 just based on the summary, title, tags, etc. There are usually indicators.

Sometimes you're so desperate for fic in a given pairing that you read the fic anyway out of hope but. You know.

While I think you're right that that can be the case sometimes, it isn't always. Some fics have a great summary and the right tags, but terrible execution -- and the reverse happens, as well. I don't think there's any foolproof way to avoid all 2\5 fics and read only 5\5 ones.

Everyone is shitting too hard on 2/5 too, imo. It's not 1/5 or 0/5, and 3/5 is slightly above average? It's not like people are going out reading terrible awful unredeemable shitfic and being like "hmm yeah I give that a 4/10, just below average." 2/5 fic is the stuff you'd give a try once then decide you don't like, not stuff you mashed the back button at in the first chapter.

'Mediocre' doesn't = terrible and 'didn't particularly enjoy' doesn't = hated.

I read the fic, duh. If it's bad, then it's bad. If it's fine I continue to read. Do you just magically discover that you liked/disliked the fic after you finish the last line?

(Anonymous) 2024-07-21 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
DA

Sometimes the last line can make or break a fic. I remember reading an AU piece about 15 years ago. It had been entertaining but not something that was super original. The last line, though, really tied all the emotional threads together and cemented the sense of place. That's when I realized, "You know what? That was a good story in spite of it taking some sort of convoluted turns."

If I were to read a crossover that was getting convoluted I'd drop it so quick. It's nice to know that patience pays off sometimes.

You're an asshole.

(Anonymous) 2024-07-21 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
fuck you.
